They are made of different densities of plastic, much like the sole of a
running shoe.  No filling, no waffles...  They are similar in thickness to a
regular plastic pad with perhaps a reset in them.  (We very seldom reset pads
at the next shoeing if we can help.  We like to let the sole be exposed when
possible.)

They have done WONDERS for our old man who foundered in 1988 - he can
successfully compete over rocks that would bring him to his knees without these
pads.  We tease that he should be called "Indestructo" when he has his pads...
He strides out as though there is nothing in the world that could stop him.  He
once had a loose shoe at a ride and the farrier screwed up the pad as he got
ready to reset him.  He had a regular plastic pad that was the same weight as
the shock Tamer that we had on his other front foot.  Major was noticeably less
comfortable on that foot compared to the Shock Tamer.  We were sold!

Our attempt at Shock Tamer rim pads was less successful - too much of the
different density plastic was trimmed off when it was fit to the shoe (size 1).

We have had no more problem with loose clinches using Shock Tamers than any
other pad.  If we know that the ride will be rugged, we will get side clips,
whether we've padded or not.

BTW - their therapeutic pad has a center insert that is removeable for
treatments.  DO NOT plan to use this to ride.  The insert will keep coming
out!  (How many times have we stopped to recover your inserts that first & only
time, Mike?)
