Going down in the float
Hoping fellow ridecampers may have some suggestions. A friend of mine has
recently started having problems with her horse scrambling in the float.
He used to float fairly well, and suddenly last weekend he scrambled and
went down in the float. She was lucky enough to be able to remove the
centre divider and he stood up and she walked him home. A few days later
she tried putting him in with his paddock buddy and he scrambled really
badly and cut his leg etc. This was only rolling along, in first gear.
The float is a 2 horse bumper pull. There is no head divider and the
centre divider is only half filled in, does not reach the floor. (The
second time he was able to get his leg high enough to scrape it on the
divider) There is no real ventilation, which I think could be the start of
the problem as she travels on a lot of dirt roads. The floor is sound and
not slippery.
My suggestions have been to remove the centre divider or at least have it
changed to be just a pole so that it is too high for him to get his hoof up
to and get a vent in the roof. Maybe even try backing him in and see if
that makes a difference. Does any one have any other ideas we can try to
reeducate him to stand quietly. BTW he doesn't have a problem walking into
the float.
TIA
