I have a mare that has been stretching her neck to the ground for
several years. She is very sure footed and takes care of herself and
me, so I do not worry about her tripping or that she might kick herself
in the nose. So when she reaches down to the ground, I watch her.
What she does is rub or scratch her nose on the ground. If we are
walking she will stop and scratch her nose on her leg, but when we
are trotting she can't stop, so she uses the ground to itch. Hallie
