I've hauled a 20 ft gooseneck trailer for years with 1/2 and 3/4 ton
straight pickups. I even had a wheel come off the trailer one time using
a 1/2 ton with no disaster. (this was a double axle trailer of course.)
I've always felt that goosenecks track better than bumper pulls (ours is
a fifth wheel which also helps) Although I must admit that my 95 bumper
pull trailer I bought so I wouldn't have to borrow the gooseneck anymore
tracks real well too. I think earlier bumper pulls I had did not have
the torsion control and other improvements. Unless you are hauling a very
long or heavy trailer I don't think you need a dually or even a straight
1 ton though.
