When I lived in Humboldt County (No. California on the coast - rains a
lot!) one of my horses had two white hooves. Every winter those two
white hooves would go soft and he'd end up at the vets with IV
antibiotics for weeks. Not a pretty sight. When I moved to L.A. I had a
horse with one white hoof and it was the driest, crackiest, weakest hoof
she had (but it never went soft in the winter!). Those are the only
horses I've ever had with white hooves and it is a selling point with me
now. If the horse is a dream come true in every respect except white
hooves I'll go ahead and purchase it, but if there are any doubts about
the horse the white hooves will prevent the sale.
