When I managed the ECTRA rides at Graves Mountain (VA) I collected breed
information for the various non weight division awards. Frankly, I didn't
find it to be difficult at all. Our ride was by pre-registration only and
a copy of the registration papers would accompany the ride application
(along with liability release and negative coggins). I kept a registration
database and one on the fields was breed. I could easily sort the entries
by breed at the end of the ride (for the breed awards) or for other
reporting as necessary. Entries without registration papers were
considered "grade". Since all of our registration work was done in advance
we only had to contend with occasional horse or rider switches at the
check-in.
