Just to add another twist to this thread....
One of my horses died of an enterolith last Dec. The size of a man's fist
caught in the small intestine near the stomach (pyloric sphyncter). What
was it? PERSIMMONS!! Persimmons have a gluelike substance that doesn't
digest. He had been at the house with no persimmons since Oct. (They get
ripe in Oct-Dec.) so they were probably accumulated for several years (he
was 5 and raised here).
So,if you have persimmons, don't let your horses eat them!!
We tried to cut them down, but on 100 acres it was an impossible task, so
they are all up on 10 acres with no persimmons until January.
