I read with interest the IAHA Achievement Award Rule Change for
endurance and ctr. I just re-joined IAHA and haven't received my rule
book yet -- but i sure hope this change will not govern other non-Arab
show areas. In addition to competing in limited distance rides with my
purebred gelding, I show a half arab pinto in open (rated) dressage
shows and am halfway to her legion of merit, competing against
thoroughbreds, warmbloods, etc. This rule change would be devastating to
us, since there are usually only a handful of arabs at rated dressage
shows around here.
i can only guess at iaha's 'reasonsing,' but suspect it is because IAHA
recognizes that, in endurance, arabs are "the horse of choice" and are
at an advantage and should not get points for winning over horses not
recognized for excellence in the endurance field...although we all know
those are generalizations and that there are individuals in each breed
that 'break' the rules...
and what a reporting chore for ride managers to have to count how many
horses in your 60-or even 100- something- horse- ride are arabs or half
arabs!!
