cut off times

It is nice to read so many responses to the cut-off time issue that
support the rider. I am sure that many of you have had "wierd"
things happen out there, ones that cost time and changed your "race"
into a "completition". One of the points here is that endurance is
not just racing up there for top ten, it is getting a horse through.
At championship rides, three riders must complete to earn a team
medal, and many times that third rider is way back there using all of
his/her skill to get a "border-line" horse across the finish. I have
seen horses cramp, tie-up,lose a shoe be dead lame, get a shoe, go
sound, and countless other things that one would think would end a
ride, yet these horses have finished, some in the top ten!! The key
was that the rider had the time to work on the horse, let him
recover, not push for a "deadline". I would urge you to use your
AERC rep to send this message.
