The Effects of Attitude

Usually I lurk but had to speak up.

I have seen complaints about Trail Blazer.
I have seen complaints about the Cosequin Challenge.
I have seen complaints about the ROC.
I have seen complaints about SPAM.
I have seen bashing of the Kanavys.
I have seen nastiness towards Teddy.
All on this list.....

How does the negativity affect you?

Does it make you want to put on a ride yourself?
Does it make you want to try to put on a special ride?
Does it make you want to tackle an endurance related business?
Does it make you want to stand out?

I just notice that I do not see much in the way of positive comments
about what people are doing to support our sport. If we keep bashing,
people that have stepped out into leadership will quit. Do you want
Susan to quit having the ROC or stop publishing Trail Blazer? The
Cosequin Challenge people quit. The ride manager quit Ride Camp. Here
was a COMPANY willing to support our sport. We all have our views, but
think of the probable impact of negativity and bashing. Do we want
rides to go away? I can think of at least a dozen ride managers that
don't put on rides anymore SIMPLY because of bad experiences with
riders.

Locally this past summer a new ride was held close to me. The manager
wanted to do a really good job and put in a lot of effort. The
complaints about the poorly marked trail were numerous. So what now?
Do you think this manager wants to put a ride on again. It would be in
spite of the experience of his first ride if he does. And he learned
that his trail was not marked adequately. If you knew that about a ride
you put on, wouldn't you try to do better the next time if you were
encouraged about what you did (versus bashed?)

I have been considering putting on rides again. The criticisms I am
seeing over and over on the Camp makes me think, Is it really worth it?
It is rare that someone makes a profit from a ride in the less populated
areas, which is really most of the country. Long hours are put in and
it is basically thankless. Gratitude has to come from within as the
critics outnumber the praisers.

Have you ever subscribed to other lists? You should. You will see
humor, banter, yes arguments but respectfully, and fun! Can't we look
at what we have now and reflect?????

If you want things better, please be a part of the solution.
