In a message dated 97-10-08 00:14:23 EDT, you write:

<< Sandy and Terry,

I am somewhat concerned that although AERC has responded to each of you
individually regarding your thoughts, you have (a) not responded and (b)
persist in characterizing AERC as some sort of villain. We (that means
your National Office AND the entire Board) are here to hear you and to
respond to your concerns. If something is wrong, I don't think there's
a person on AERC's Board that would not say . . . I made a mistake,
let's fix it. AERC's Board members are people just like you who enjoy
the sport and are willing to dedicate an enormous amount of their
personal time to make things better for and to educate all of those who
enjoy the sport of endurance riding. If both of you feel so strongly
about the sport and the impact that AERC Board decisions have on you, I
would encourage you (and feel strongly that each and every Board member
would agree with me) that you volunteer your time as well and consider
running for a Board position at the next available election
(Directors-at-Large in 1998). You might get a far different perspective
of what your fellow AERC/Board members have to deal with on a day-to-day
business. It may well be a big picture/little picture perspective. Or
something entirely different. But I sense an anger in both of you that
needs to be dispelled . . . and dispelled for the good of all AERC
members. Perhaps we could take this private and get to the heart of
what's disturbing you. That way, we could resolve your problems and
hopefully, in the end, reach a solution that positively affects all of
AERC's membership. >>

Mary Ann,
Perhaps, because you are so new to AERC, you do not realize the amount of
volunteer time Terry Wooley Howe has put in to the sport of endurance riding
in the SW region. She manages three rides a year that are some of the most
popular rides in Southern California. Her rides average over 120 riders at
each ride. She will be hosting a mini convention at the Warner Hot Springs
ride for the new region and next year she will be putting on the Championship
100 mile ride for the new region. Terry is also running for regional director
for the new region. She has put new life in the the San Diego based
endurance rides that were the least attended rides 4 yrs ago. I am not sure
how much more of her time, money and dedication she should have to invest in
AERC before she is able to give her opinion on a public forum. I reread her
posts and did not find any that were negative to the AERC Board or your
office.
I feel you owe her an apology both privately and on Ridecamp if you were
not aware of the above facts.
