I just did the 50 mile Biltmore Fall Mountin' Hopes Ride this past
weekend. First let me say thank you to the management for a job well
done! The profits from this ride will help some special people learn to
ride horses and we all know what joy that brings us. I traveled from
Florida to Ashville and it was well worth the ll hour trip each way.
Silkyn did fine and did not even show any signs of fatigue - isn't it
amazing what these horses can do? This is a flatlander pony who doesn't
have any mountains to train in - yet everytime I take him to the
mountains he seems to think nothing of it.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I put out the question of - what
interference boots seem to work the best? I got alot of answers and
finally decided to try the sport medicine boots - both hind and front.
I went with the run down style boot for the hind and I have to report
that they did an excellent job. Whenever I came into the holds, I would
pull them and rinse them in a bucket and sponge his legs off. They did
great and they stayed in place.
But, tonight I noticed where the neoprene girth was and the end of the
skito flaps were that he was scalded in these areas. See - endurance
riding is nothing but continuous problem solving. A friend loaned me a
new style (biothane) girth to try. We'll see what that does? Are many
of you using them - what is your opinion? I am using a sheepskin under
the Skito. Apparently, that is not good enough. Well, now I have to
work on these two areas -------HELP!!
