Do we hafta talk about winter already! I'm still in denial! It isn't
cold yet, it's spring still, isn't it?

North coastal California is pretty mild for horses. I also learned that
horses are comfortable around 50 degrees. I let Mystery grow his thick
shaggy furry hair during the winter and he also lives completely outside
on pasture, where he can move and enjoy natural wind breaks to keep
warm.

This meant making sure he did not get overheated from exercise on our
nice days. I use a natural fleece blanket after working to help wick up
the moisture until he is dry. I got one from State Line Tack very
reasonable. I have to be aware of the time and make sure he is back and
cooled down before dark and the temperature drops. But..we have no snow
on the coast, mostly rain, so I'm sure the easterners deal with this
differently.
