Hi all!
Just want to introduce myself both to this group and (hopefully) to
endurance riding. Now you know I can use all the help I can get! <G> I've
ridden for pleasure all my life but as I approach the "fun" years (In my
40's), and I'm not so tunneled vision so as to think rodeo (barrels,
reining, roping, etc) is the only way...... I'm finding a tremendous
interest in the endurance riding. Being a person who has to have a goal in
mind with everything I do, this seems like a sport that would be that plus
meeting new people and having fun to boot! I just purchased an Officer's
Patriot from OrthoFlex that I love and seems to me it will make a pretty
fair endurance saddle. The fit is fantastic both for me and P.B. (my 4.5
year old gelding).
I'd appreciate any beginners tips you can bring me. I'm pretty sure I'm
not going to be in a winners spot for a long time but I am really looking
forward to get the best out of both myself and my horse who is at this
point only green broke. Also have a 14 year old, (both are quarter
horses), who's pretty much been an arena horse all his life and not sure if
he would do well on the trail without a lot of work. I realize I'm not
starting out with the best breeding for the long rides so I would like to
hear from a few QH people that I'm wrong! Also P.B. is a black which I
would suppose is also a detriment - would love to be proven wrong there also!
I've been reading the posts here for a while now it is really refreshing to
find a group who are bent on keeping their posts informative and not "soap
opera" style! Thanks to all!
