We ride all winter in Vermont and have tried everything. The best
product I have used lately is the "huff grip" pad for snow balling.
It is a rim pad, which allows the foot to remain open and also does
not pick up all the dirt and stuff that popper pads do. They work
great! As for studs on easyboots, we have tried them. the studs are
big! and it was almost impossible to keep the boots on over trail.
Rojeks put studded inserts into their Sleifners and those horses go
over anything with no problem. We have also used screw in calks and
sharp borium with good results. Neither, however are a good idea if
you are riding on bare, frozen roads. We have snow most of the
winter!
