Admittedly Tracy (she) came on like a Mac truck - and
an outsider not familiar with ridecamp's unwritten code
of conduct, but there were some mighty hot words flung
around regarding the $ awards issue and being an outsider
she might not have considered references to ride
management, Nutramax and the Trail Conservancy as
harmless as most of us did. We know each other and
have learned to be patient when someone gets a bit
irate, but if some of the comments that I've seen
presented to the public via ridecamp were published
in a periodical I think there would be greater
repercussions than electronic Mac trucks.
We need to start considering how fast news travels
in the electronic medium, and how distorted
rumors can become - and make more of an effort
to reduce personal harm to those who incur our
wrath. *I* need to consider the legal implications
of slander, libel and defamation on this public
forum. Ouch. This is supposed to be fun! The
last thing I want to do stifle the spontaneity
and enthusiasm of this group, but with 600+
members, many from other countries, we have to
be more considerate - and careful about who and
what we reference - and think before we type!
