For you would-be ride managers, an observation....for what it's worth:
If there is rain immediately preceding your scheduled event and it makes the
trail more difficult....take this into consideration when planning the ultimate
event course. The mud will definitely slow your riders down and it may be
difficult to complete in the time allowed due to this factor. I was helping
out on the final loop for the 50/100 on Sunday and found that it was more
difficult then expected due to the mud. And you definitely don't want your
riders out on a muddy trail in the dark if you can help it unless they're doing
a 100 and it can't be helped.
Observation #2
Colored plastic plates with trail information make excellent trail markers.
Observation #3
It takes one heck of a lot of work to put on a ride. It's nice to see that the
riders appreciate the effort and are so polite when things don't go exactly the
way they should.
I'm attempting to put a ride together in the Banning area, the last weekend of
Oct '97.....I must be nuts......
Hope to see some of you there.
