Yet more thoughts on $ and competition

I have not yet participated in an endurance race but I do plan on it when my 3
year old and I have grown up and gotten educated. The reason I became
interested in endurance is because I am completely disillusioned with the
world of competitive dressage (or hunter-jumpers , or western pleasure etc.)
To me, endurance looks like an activity where I can have lots of fun with my
horse and not worry about points or scores or how the judge feels about small
horses, or what illegal or unethical substance or methods the other people have used on
their horse. In my view, endurance is a refuge from all that- we compete
against ourselves more than against someone else. If you reward pure speed
without regard to condition, then you WILL have horses breaking down as a
result. I agree with the idea that someone posted about linking winning with
being fit to continue. -Amy
