Sandy-
We've had two horses freeze-marked and when the technician does that, she
measures the horse's height with a stick. It seems that most people
over-estimate the size of their horse by about 2 inches. So the Appy horse that
I ride is about 15 hands but people would think he is 15.2. I am 5ft 4in tall
and weigh about 128. My horse could probably do OK with heavyweight rider.
Nick's Arab horse is about the same size although probably weighs less. I think
Nick is about 5ft10in and 170lbs, falling somewhere in the Middleweight class.

Just a query for the general population - what is your height and weight AND
the size of the horse you ride? About half of the people who have come to see
our mare for sale who is nearly 15.2 AND A PB Arabian!... say they want
something bigger. HOW MUCH BIGGER? Geeez, from a functional standpoint,
distance horses should not be overly large. We are talking about people who
are not more than 5'10" here, not some giants who need a Percheron. I would
like some input. Thanks! san
