Several weeks ago we were discussing methods of keeping our legs from
rubbing raw. My favorite tights were worn out, and they were no
longer being made. Since several folks advocated Carousel tights, I
ordered a pair before a 5 day trip in the mountain.
The first time I put them on, I thought that the seat & knee padding
was FUNNY FEELING - right up until I rode in them. They were great!
We rode 30 miles at a moderate pace - no HINT of any rubs. Needless
to say, I washed them out & planned to wear them the next day.
Day 2 - Caught on a high, exposed ridge during a thunder/hail storm.
No place to go, no place to hide. (The side of the mountain was too
steep to get down behind any protection. We galloped down along a
saddle of the mountain in rain & hail, lightning cracking 1/2 mile behind
us. I promise to NEVER to be in that situation again. The storm
came up over the ridge with little warning.) Even though the tights were soaked,
I was comfortable after 35 miles. While the padding did soak up the
water, but never became irritating.
Day 3 - my husband (the confirmed "I'll never wear tights" person)
asked to try them. (Men in form-fitting tights!!!) (Also, I am
embarrassed to admit that he could get into them) He was so pleased
w/ them, he has ordered a pair w/ belt loops and "racing stripes", as he
calls them. I never thought that I would see the day...
Day 4 - Tried some match mates tights that I had - rubs behind my knee
by the end of the day like you wouldn't believe! I think they'll be
going into the bin at the next yard sale :(
Day 5 - Rode the farm's Paso's (Rocket, my Arab, was tired, being a
flatlander's horse.) Interesting feeling, riding a Paso but I don't think I'm
ready to trade in my Arab yet. We had a hard time keeping up with the TN
Walkers that 2 other people rode.
All in all, a wonderful weekend. I'm thrilled to have found
comfortable tights for both of us. (And think of all of those miles
riding behind my husband while he wears those fitting tights! He'd
die if he knew I wrote this!)
