Linda--
You don't mention what part of the country you are in, but out here in
the part of California that I live in a lot of our horses are
deficient in Selenium. Some people feed vitamin E and Selenium
supplements. It is thought that there is a connection between "tying
up" and low levels of selenium. I periodically give an injection of
Vit E/Selenium to my horse.
My horse was tested for selenium levels a couple of years ago so I
don't remember the numbers. It was "low normal". One thing that my
vet pointed out was that the range of levels was generated from
samples that that particular lab had done so my horse was "low normal"
compared to all the horses that had been tested by that lab.
What does your reference book say about selenium?
