[endurance] still a stallion?

I was shocked to read in the latest issue of "Horse Illustrated" that
when a stallion with one undescended testicle is gelded, and the undescended
testicle is left in the abdominal cavity, that the horse still remains a
stallion in every way except for fertility. They say that the sex gland,
although probably small and underdeveloped, still produces male hormones even
if there is no sperm production (due to the warmth in the abdominal cavity).
I was under the impression that the male hormones also were inactivated due
to the heat. I have an arab that was gelded as a 5 yr old due to an
undescended testicle, and he has always been a real gentleman ---although
overly sensitive, I never thought of him as anything but "one of the guys
(geldings). Has anyone else heard this, and is it true???
