This would be an ecellent time to do ground training (with your vet/farrier's OK). Ever try clicker training? This would be a great time to try that: check out the book 'Clicker Training For Your Horse' by Alexandra Kurland. There are a bunch
of on-line sites as well. This can be done even with a stall-bound horse - teach him some fun tricks, as well as usefull stuff. Also might be a good time to check out some of the
'Natural Horsemanship' methods, such as John Lyons or Pat Parelli - they have many ground exercises.
This would also be a good time to educate yourself. we have a local tack store that rents out a wide range of videos on equestrian subjects - are there any on your area? It also might be a good time to take some lessons: perhaps you could find a working student position or internship at a local stable?
Or volunteer at a local rescue.
Oh to be 13 again and have some free time to do this stuff!!!
Good luck and have fun while your guy heals!
