[RC] My votes on the BOD Motions - Roger Rittenhouse
FROM Roger Rittenhouse
A request was made by a few on RC for BOD members who read this
forum, to post their positions on the motions.
Since I and my wife and horses will be gone ALL next week riding in
BSF - staying at NEW Horse camp ground, we are the first guests...
where there is NO Internet, NO EMAIL, NO RC and NO BOD LIST.
I will respond, good thing I will not be reading email from Sun on- I
will not see the responses.
Then I get home on Thursday night unload the horses, un-hook the truck
and make ready to drive 3 hrs to Atlanta to fly out Fri AM for SLC
and the AERC BOD meetings.
MY COMMENTS IN CAPS NOT SHOUTING!!

Motion #2
Prepared by: Maggie Price
PRESENTED BY S KASEMEYER
Statement of Motion: For LD completion the horse must cross the finish line within the required time (i.e. 6 hours for 25
miles) and thereafter meet a successful vet check. Placings will be determined by time the pulse is met.
RR- VOTE NO - I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS HAS NOT BEEN PROCESSED THROUGH THE LD OR
RULES COMM. IF IT COMES TO A BOD VOTE I WILL VOTE NO. LEAVE LD
COMPLETION TIME AS IT IS
Motion #3
Prepared by: Jim Baldwin
Statement of Motion: All entrants in any distance of a ride know and agree that their entry into the ride is with the
stipulation that all activities that relate to the ride are subject to use by AERC for analysis of ways to improve and educate
all concerned be they riders, ride managers, veterinarians, etc.
RR- I VOTE YES I AGREE WITH THIS MOTION AND ITS INTENT HOWEVER I DO BELIEVE
THE APPLICABLE COMMITTEES?? HAVE NOT PASSED ON THIS??
THIS IS TO INSURE ANY INFORMATION PERTAINING TO YOUR HORSE - IF TREATED OR DIES
AT A RIDE IS KEPT AT AERC AS INFORMATIONAL RECORDS
AND NOT CONSIDERED PRIVATE CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION, BY ANY PARTY.
THAT IS THE REPORTS OF SAID INCIDENTS ARE OPEN FOR REVIEW BY THE BOD and
INVESTIGATING PERSONAL.. THIS IS MY SOFT INTERPRETATION OF THE INTENT
AND NOT DR J BALDWIN'S.
IN THE EVENT WE DO GET TO VOTE ON THIS MOTION I VOTE FOR.
Motion #4
Prepared by the Ride Managers Committee/Connie Caudill Chairman
Statement of Motion: Rule 11.2 proposed changes are underlined:
Special event rides are series of rides on consecutive days, totaling more than two days. Special Qualification rides are
rides with entry qualifications other than those contained in rule #3. Special event and special qualification rides shall
require approval of the AERC Board of Directors for sanction for the first two years.
Rule 11.2 as it currently reads:
Special event rides are series of rides on consecutive days, totaling more than three days or 150 miles. Special
Qualification rides are rides with entry qualifications other than those contained in rule #3. Special event and special
qualification rides shall require approval of the AERC Board of Directors for sanction for the first two years.
RR-I VOTE NO, I SEE NO COMPELLING REASON, HAVE NOT SEEN ANY
EVIDENCE THAT INDICATES WE NEED THIS CHANGE. I BELIEVE THE INTENT WAS
TO KEEP 3 DAY OUT OF THE SS PROGRAM, THIS WAS NOT AN OVERSIGHT,JUST MY OPINION.
Motion #5 Withdrawn
Motion #6
Prepared by Randy Eiland
Statement of Motion: Rule addition 11.10 ?Sanction Directors may allow, at their discretion and the approval of the
Executive Committee, Sanctioning or Ride Change requests that are received after the 120/90 day period described in Rule
11.
RR- I VOTE NO I SEE NO COMPLETING REASON FOR A CHANGE. OPENS THE
DOOR TO ABUSE. THERE WERE GOOD REASONS FOR THE TIME PERIODS.
Motion #7
Prepared by: Roger Taylor
Statement of Motion: AERC to fund an amount equat to 20% of the Equine and Potable water project cost, not to exceed
$4,000.00, to the Bureau of Land Management ? Roswell District. The funds specifically targeted for the development of an
equine and potable water source at the Ft. Stanton Trailhead and Base Camp. Upon BOD approval of this motion, the AERC
Executive Director will send a letter of confirmation to the BLM Roswell Area Office.
RR_ I VOTE NO, I SEE NO OVERALL BENEFIT TO 'ALL' OF AERC FOR THIS
PROJECT. THERE ARE NO BLM LANDS IN THE EAST AND OTHER REGIONS? THIS
PROJECT IS FOR THE GOOD OF A SMALL GROUP OF RIDERS IN THE SW. LET THE
SW RIDERS FUND THIS PROJECT. JUST AS WEST FUNDS TEVIS.
Motion #8
Prepared by: Stephanie Teeter
Statement of Motion: The ride managers committee will devote a column in Endurance News to addressing the importance
of listing all riders that start an endurance or limited distance ride in the final results. The definition of starting a ride will be
discussed with reference to physical start as well as the clock.
RR VOTE YES. HOWEVER THIS RULE COMPLIANCE ISSUE GOES BEYOND THIS
POINT OR MOTION
Motion #9
Prepared by: Stephanie Teeter
Statement of motion: Move to establish an ad hoc committee: Policy and Procedures, Committee Chair ? Steph Teeter.
Initial purpose is to review and evaluate existing AERC policies and procedures.
RR-VOTE YES
Motion #10
Prepared by: Rules Committee/Randy Eiland, Chairman
Modification of Rule 1.2.2, replacing the word race with the word ride
Rule 1.2.2: The rider must state which mileage he will enter if a multiple mileage ride; e.g., 50 mile, 100 mile or 150
mile.
RR -VOTE YES.
Motion #11
Prepared by: Rules Committee/Randy Eiland, Chairman
Modification of Rule L.2.1.2 to comply with the endurance rule:
Rule L.2.1.2: Control veterinarians are veterinarians employed by ride management to monitor the equines and
counsel riders and ride management on equine welfare as well as to uphold the AERC rules. A control veterinarian must be
an AERC member, either as a regular member or as a veterinary member. A veterinarian supplying treatment only is not
required to be an AERC member.
RR_ VOTE YES
Motion #12
Prepared by: Rules Committee/Randy Eiland, Chairman
Modification of Rule L2.1.8 to comply with the endurance rule:
Rule L2.1.8 Equines that are treated or die at rides shall be reported on a form with ride results to be completed by the
ride veterinarian and submitted with ride results. This information will be kept permanently on file at the AERC Office.
RR- VOTE YES
Motion #13
Prepared by: Rules Committee/Randy Eiland, Chairman
Modification to Rule L5, changing the word completion to competition, probably the original intent, this was probably a
typographical error.
Rule L5: The ride must provide a specific amount of time (total competition time) which will include all stops and
holds, and within which competitors must complete the ride to qualify for placing or completion.
RR_ VOTE YES. I MUST ADMIT I REALLY BELIEVE WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH
TOO MANY DEFINITIONS OF THE ASSORTED TIME PERIODS BUT AFTER SOME
THOUGHT THIS MAKES SENSE.
Motion #14
Prepared by: Limited Distance Committee/Gail Williams, Chairman
Statement of Motion: Criteria for selecting a Best Condition horse on a Limited Distance ride be the same in all ways as
that for any other endurance distances.
RR- VOTE YES. SUSPECT IF A RULE REQUIRES CHANGES TO FACILITATE
COMPLIANCE, THERE MAY BE OTHER MOTIONS GENERATED FROM THIS. SINCE THIS
IS NOT LISTED A RULE CHANGE BUT A POLICY STATEMENT. WHAT EVER THE
OUTCOME, I SUPPORT LD BC AND THE PROCESS TO SELECT SAME.
Not all that many major issues to take 3 days. But we do know there
will be other issues. Since there will only be ONE MINUTE to state
one's views on a issue followed by a 30 sec rebuttal, I seriously doubt
any significant discussion will be presented to change any of my
positions.
Too bad we cant do this electronically, I could vote and keep on
riding. Even have to miss a ride to go to this.
I will report back about the issues,
Roger Rittenhouse AERC 8263 DAL
