RE: [RC] Free enterprise - Bob Morris
There is one problem with this analogy. You state <<<They
end up right next to each other because they appeal to
different people and
offer a different menu.>>>
But the multiday ride and the three day ride and the single
day ride all offer the same menu. Now, if you restrict the
multiday ride to exactly that, ride all five days or
nothing, and the same with the three day ride, all or
nothing, then you have a comparison. But the five day multi
offers five single day rides as well as a five day ride. Or
it offers any number of days from one to five.
There in lies the problem. In reality it is the Pioneer
Award that is driving this discussion, not the rides
themselves. There is nothing in our rules or procedures that
prevent a single day ride to be held in proximity (time or
location) to a multi. Most multi's are held Monday through
Friday. Most three day rides are held over a long weekend.
So fart in the discussion I have not seen any one lay out in
outline form exactly what the problem is or what might be
the best solution. There has been zilch analysis to date and
any vote during the BoD meeting will be strictly emotional.

What about McDonald's that also owns Boston Market
franchises. They end
up right next to each other because they appeal to different
people and
offer a different menu. Is it not the same with the
different types of
rides? Do multidays appeal to a different person than
single days and
therefore both can exist next to each other? My only
questions are, are
there enough customers to go around and are multidays just a
series of
single days which makes it easier for the rider to do their
one or two days?
Would different offerings create more customers who would be
more
comfortable at each venue or kill both financially.
