Re: [RC] [RC] "I can't see how bareback would help. I too am short and have shortlegs and am also overweight. " - kit kat
Well, Me, I LOVE riding bareback. I am 5ft tall, and a HEAVEY weight rider.
when I got my first pony, my mom noticed me sitting crocked in the saddle,
so she took my saddle away and taught me how to ride bareback. If someone
said to me, how would you like to ride today, i would say bareback. I have
riden ALL kinds of horses bareback. I can jump 3'9 bareback. I found it
has helped me be the rider I am today. What would happen to someone if they
were going over a 3'9 jump and ONLY relied on there sturrips? Well, you can
guess and i have seen it. HOPEFULLY they are wereing a helmet. As a
certified instructor. My student take 1 month to 2 month of saddle
lessons(depending on speed of learning) and THEN, they go to the bareback
for 1 month. When i had my roundpen, they went without reins and no saddle.
It was AWESOME to watch how they would learn and get the feelings of the
horse. I even teach them how to properly fall off from bareback and with a
saddle. I never grip with my calves. I acutally ride the new mare that i
just got a month ago all the time bareback. She is high high
withered(having trouble finding saddle that high for her) and a bit bony..
but i still love riding her that way. I feel more at home bareback then
with a saddle, i find it a hinderance to my feeling and understanding in my
horse. But maybe that is because i usually ride bareback. where as others
use saddles. Oh well:) Just my 2 cents worth:)
Sarah + zac + penny
P.s. Im dieing to ride zac bareback(BIG SPOOKER) but he is still haveing
feet work done.
