Re: [RC] Body Protectors - sharp penny

They are required for eventers here in the US. What little
eventing I did, I sure hated putting on my "vest". They are
very hot, even the ones advertised as "breathable".
Tipperary (sp?) makes a relatively light weight one that is
almost comfortable...lol. You can find them in Dover's mail
order catalog. Be prepared to spend between $100-200. Make
sure that it meets ASTM F1937-98 standard. The less
expensive ones may not be and they are hotter and bulkier
to wear. It also has to fit very snuggly to do its job of
protecting your torso. The material used to pad the vest is
easily broken down in extreme temp changes and certain
cleaning substances so be sure to follow the manufacturers
rec's on cleaning and storage of the vest. The vests DO NOT
offer protection to spinal injuries and sever torsion,
flexing, extention or crushing of the body.

    Penny
