I can add that of the 15 or so horses I have ridden in endurance over the
last 20 years (mostly belonging to other people- most of them high milage -
three of my own - )  not one of them was retired due to injury.  BUT, in my
husband's vet practice and my shoe experience, there are quite a few 'other'
horses around with performance related injuries or arthritis, but that
includes many many navicular horses of one particular breed.
