Calle, About the only advice is, if it works, use it. The bit/hack question is entirely between you & your horse. I might be easier for the horse to eat & drink without a bit or shanked hack, but control comes first. Breastcollar & crupper help on hills, you can usually ride with a looser girth. I have been told by som,e people different things about the uslulness of certine items of tack I'd appreciate your own personal feelings on the use of cruppers, hackamores vs bits and different types of breast collars.
