killer racers

Greetings from Beth in Power hungry California.   Hi Lif; I agree with Heidi's post too.  In this area there are a couple of rides (not quite as bad as what you describe) that involve lots of drinking and cowboying.  On is in Death Valley..which made me confused reading about the Death Valley ride people on Ride camp attended.  The other DV ride is a multi day ride, that a lot of women are bowing out of because they have to watch for the drunken idiots who want to molest the women.  The other is held in the Anza Borrego Desert, and I was told years ago (by a cowboy) that only "men" could go because it was such a tough ride, (ha ha. like they are as tough as women) and they would get a buckle proving what real cowboys they were.  The truth was that they were so shitfaced drunk, that half the time  they had to trailer the horses from point A to B 'cause the "cowboys"  (read weekend riders) were so hung over.  they also would ride their poor fat unconditioned quarter horses into a miserable condition.   Their  reputation has become such that the Anza ride, seems to be fading away into nothing.   We also have a problem here with the Mexican Rodeos and the Charros and the abuses which we have already discussed before on ridecamp.  I would say that the biggest help in that fight was the media.  we had a horsewoman/newscaster actually go to the Charro rodeos, swallow her disgust, act like she liked it, and video tape everything.  This was later broadcast along with her complete description of how cruelly tha animals were treated.  This may be an avenue you could possibly explore, however be very careful, these people could hurt you.  You have already started by putting this on the internet.  Expand your protest on the net...include pictures or any data you can. Let the power of the net  be with you...oops I better hurry before they shut our electrici
