Kanopolis Report

Finally got word on the Kansas ride from Thomas myself:

Permanent trail was flooded out- rerouted -long (I know they tried to measure,
but...); Ride manager and RIDER nightmare.

18 50 mile riders started

7 completed and apparently two would not have if they did not have an hour
extension.

My horse and rider, AAS FAHD ALWALIDA & Thomas Booth, who ride fast, were 4th,
15 minutes or so behind the winning time, and his ride time was 11 hours and
15 minutes (heavy weight rider.)

There were 22 100 milers started, 17 of whom were FEI horses...only 7 went
back out on the 2nd 50 miles. Thomas did not know if any finished. It's
possible the trail was changed some last night as a rider at 75 miles would
not risk that section of trail in the dark (sounds smart). The trail was deep
sand, lots of rock, lots of climbing... Thomas said it was the hardest ride he
had ever done. Too bad it was long to boot.

It was extremely hot---many horses were treated with fluids, there were people
getting pretty sick.

It's a tough sport.

Edie
