I'm with Duncan. This stuff can lead to death from 
liver damage. We had a couple well documented cases
nearby. Two horses from a small herd took a particular
fancy to a hollow in the pasture that was almost straight
alsike. Massive liver damage. 
The local purveyors of pasture seed mixes no longer include
alsike in horse pasture mixes. (Apparently, ruminants do
better on it than equids.)
