bone size vs bone density/also pictures
>i am trying to convert my boyfriend to the advantages
of arabians in long distance riding. he believes that
their legs are too thin and could easily twist and
injure them. he is looking at some appys who are very
big bonedi also want to show him how endurance horses are not
>exactly the same as show arabs. if anyone has good shots
of their, or someone elses', horse please email me privately.
i want to show him there is an arab type that he has not
>seen yet.
Jill,
He may want an Appy simply because he feels oversized on most full Arabs.
Claude Brewer, a SE heavyweight rides Arab/App crosses to get a size
he's comfortable on. As far as the legs go, I remember when I was
working the ROC in Kentucky. Maggie Price came through and I asked her
what cross her horse was. His darned legs looked like a Belgian. She
said it was full Arab. I said, Where on earth did you find an Arab with
that kind of bone? She said, "You have to BREED them". However, I had
an Arab who was very medium boned. 1400 miles of competition later, I
was surprised how heavy they looked. I'd swear they'd gotten heavier.
Personally, I'd worry more about correct legs than extremely heavy ones.
Race horses snap legs. Endurance horses wear out joints.
