At JD Fountain's Carolina 30/50/100 each year, he has his first vet check
around 7-10 miles into the ride.  He has expressed over the yrs that this has
worked very well because so many problems show up very early in the ride, like
tying up and so forth.  I like the lay out of this ride for many reasons.
