Re: RideCamp: Fwd: RideCamp: More Dog fights
HI Julie, my heart goes out to you. We just lost our much loved Lab to cancer
(no horse kick), but the pain is the same, I'm sure. You're right too, I
can't believe people would let their dogs run through a ride camp (or vet
check) willy-nilly. Why take the risk? On another note, at Tevis this past
summer we were camped in this lovely meadow at Robie Park and people were
letting (incredibly this is true) their TODDLERS run through camp -- on their
Big Wheel Trikes, yet, and really spooking some of the horses. These are
probably the same people who would let their dogs run through camp unattended.
You wonder how many dogs/toddlers survive the experience? The bottom line has
got to be mutual consideration and understanding -- amazing how little there
is. When I was 17 I saw a 2 year old child kicked in the head by a yearling
colt. The child died and the colt was shot by an irate father. I will never
forget the experience. Keep your kids AND DOGS under control.
Sylvia
