Re: Please help save our horses!!!!
Dear Valerie,
Thank you for your honest answer. I agree there are far too many
substandard horses being bred, for nothing more than a quick profit.
Many of these people don't know their horses bloodlines which means they
do not know the performance history or health history of the lines they
are breeding. How can they produce stronger and healthier animals when
they haven't put in proper research? You are completely right that the
breeders are the first in line to accept responsibility for the excess
abundance of unwanted horses and where they end up. Let this be a
message to all the breeders. Every horse deserves a fair chance at a
healthy and happy home.
In the Northwest almost any day of the week you can find a horse in the
local classifieds for under $1000. How much it cost those people to
feed and care for the horse and pay for any breeding fees, etc. must
have cost the seller well over $1000 if they owned the animal even one
year. Yet supply of horses has become so great compared to demand that
buyers now expect a horse to come cheaply. No wonder the breeders are
losing money on horses and the slaughter houses are profiting! Breeders
open your eyes and concentrate on quality - not quantity!!!! Thank you
Valerie,
Kelli.
