Do the requirements for a probiotic differ depending on the stresses
imposed on a horse, or depending on the discipline he'll be working in?
Are idle/light working horses less in need of a probiotic?

You have to do something to kill off normal gut flora before probiotics are
necessary. Excess body heat will do it. If your horse gets agitated and dances
and wrings his tail, that's the first sign of a body temp that is going to
kill the bugs and put him off feed for a week to ten days. At that point,
bring on the probiotics.
