Re: When to move up to 50
One way to get ready for the jump to 50's is to do a season (say 200 my) of
short rides and then start to go faster. If your horse can do a reasonably
flat, reasonably cool 25 in 3 hours (and be in good shape-BC scores are a
big help) it is ready for a slow 50(8-9 hrs). I always increase either the
length of exercise or the intensity, but not both. So when I add more miles
I slow down and then start building the speed.
