re: riding downhill
It makes a lot of sense not to lean backwards and inhibit and weight the
hindquarters. Also is a bad idea to ride forward and place more
stress on the forelegs. It's my somewhat educated guess that the best position
for the rider in this case as in most cases
is to carry your weight over the center of the horse. This way you won't
unbalance them behind or in front. This works for me on even the steepest
downhills
