5-gaited: walk, trot, canter, slow gait and rack. I'm not sure why being
gaited should have anything to do with being a hunter-jumper or not. My
guess is that many Arabs are smaller (though nowadays there are a lot of 15.2
-16 hand ones) and less powerful than, say, TBs. I have seen photos of some
Arabs that are succesful jumpers. just as there are some that are successful
dressage horses and cowhorses. It's just that other breeds specialize in
certain disciplines and are usually the breed of choice. Some Arabs can do
just about anything, including roping.
