I'm no expert on this matter, and I'm still trying to find the ideal saddle
for my horse, but my experience is this:
1) The white hairs won't show up for some time. It's not an immediate thing.
2) The fact that he is not sore is a hopeful sign, but I'm not sure this is
absolutely definitive of a good-fitting saddle. I've suspected saddles that
did not leave a horse sore to palpation, but I still felt did not fit well.
3) Dry spots are bad news .... they say the saddle is either putting too
much pressure, or not touching at all.
4) The ripples may be caused by the saddle shifting back and forth as the
horse moves. I've never suspected a saddle just because of ripples in the
horse's hair.
These observations are not to be taken as gospel, just mine.
