Reminds me of one we had here briefly--he had a horse with an old splint and
was rolling a pencil up and down the splint to TRY to get the horse to limp!
I was riding that day, and saw him doing it--and managed to stay out of his
line the rest of the day, too. Encountered him at another ride--the person
with whom I was riding made an error and did not warm his horse up at all
before the half-way check on a 100. He went straight over from the trailer,
and the horse took a couple of tentative steps in the rear and then trotted
right out fine. This guy said--"He's tied up. You're out." Never even laid
a hand on the horse! I was appalled. Maybe there was a problem, but to
dismiss a horse without at least checking it out is pretty absurd.
To the best of my knowledge, the man has never vetted a ride since.
