Re: RC: Carbos or Water
Truman,
The comment on Potassium being expelled rapidly caught my eye. As a
nurse, I can tell you that the body is quite capable of absorbing
excessive amounts of potassium. Potassium levels can easily get high
enough to cause heart arrhythmias or even cardiac arrest before the body
ever starts to excrete it.
When a person in the hospital shows elevated potassium, we use a
medication called K-exolate as an enema to try to draw the K+ out of the
system. Sometimes it works in time. The first Code I ever attended as
a new grad (many years ago) was a man who was slugging down his favorite
electrolyte drink while in the hospital (where he didn't sweat),
unbeknownst to the medical & nursing staff. We were all amazed that he
lived.
Admittedly we are losing K+ and Na+ in our sweat & should replace it. I
would assume that your solution that you like is balanced for this.
Just don't be complacent about over doing K+ supplementation!
