I think Howard was probably referring to the recent years band-wagon jump by
feed companies to promote their new, balanced, improved fat supplements as
opposed to adding your own corn, corn oil, or whatever. >>
Jackie, I'm not aware of Mathew's hay soaking, but many were experimenting
with corn oil 20-30 years ago, and felt that they got good results with it.
More recent work has illustrated the problems with gastric emptying on race
day, etc. Even those problems are only when you exceed a certain level of
fat--and different groups and feed companies are doing what they can to
determine a level that is acceptable to most horses.
