Hi Bette
I think you highlighted in your post the two
fundamental reasons why halter continues to exist despite being a complete
mockery.
a) there's big money involved
b) often the owners of these halter horses are not
"horse people" & whilst often genuinely fond of their horses are not likely
to enquire too closely as to how the results are achieved.
Perhaps, god forbid, they think the abuse is normal
& necessary.
All breeds require some sort of "quality control"
in order to fix breed characteristics & I guess this is where halter came
from but finding the right formula is a problem.
I also believe that these halter trainers are
fortunate, if one can use that term, in dealing with Arabians. From what I
hear from other breeders most TB or sport horse stallions wouldn't take this
sort of abuse without fighting back.
Mind you, somebody once said to me they thought
riding a horse for 100 miles was "abuse" so you can't please everyone can
you?
