Heart Rate & recoveries

I think I've read all the other postings to ridecamp on this, & have a
couple other ideas.
For one, if I understand right, the mare was started a year later. Does that
mean her conditioning began later? This would put her a year "behind" the
gelding in conditioning. So are you comparing their present HR's, or her
HR's now to the gelding's first year? Although conditioning younger horses
has more risks, it may also have more benefits as younger horses are more
adaptable to conditioning.
Are you doing all the riding on both horses?
Always conditioning alone, or if with others, always the same others?
It also may just be individual differences. When Monte rode Candy, she would
pause at the bottom of a hill & her heart rate would jump up as if she were
readying herself, her HR would actually drop by the time she got to the top.
I'd be on our stallion, Racer, his would stay very low till he got to the
top, then it would rise.
So I guess I don't have a real answer for you either, just keep track of all
your numbers & keep your eyes & mind open!!!
