Training miles
Hi Frank,
Was really interested in your post about the number of training miles
you do. I have often thought that I don't ride enough miles a week to
prepare for even a 50 mile ride compared to how many miles a marathon runner
does a week. My horse spends most of his time on his feet, as do all horses,
of course, and moves around a lot so he does a lot of "conditioning" himself
which is may be why he is able to do rides with minimal conditioning. The
more conditioning miles I have done on my horse the more his performance and
recovery have improved. I agree with Tom that we could see improvements in
riding times if we conditioned more. It is very interesting to me that the
average completion times for many rides are pretty much the same as they were
10 years ago.
