New Motto?
Now I know that I will be flamed for what I am about to say. But, I
agree with Tom here. For as much as everyone may disagree with me,
I've never liked the current motto. Mind you, I think I understand
where it comes from and I respect it. I agee that the first goal we
have is to finish with a healthy, sound horse and that doing so
represents a very significant acheivement. Good work. Excellent.
And if you enjoyed doing it, even more wonderful. I mean that truly.
But, it isn't winning. Winning is winning. Participating is
participating. Some are out there trying to just get through it and
others have made the commitment to do more than that. To excel.
Isn't that what sports are all about? I don't have an idea for a
new motto. It is not high on my list of things to think about, but I
think Tom raises a good, and controversial point here: if we call
endurance a sport then the prime objective is trying to do it better
than the next person. I find it slightly surprising that when anyone
says, "well that motto doesn't fit my idea of winning" that they are
accused of not understanding or respecting the "sport".
> If the Motto of AERC needs to be changed, leave that process to those that understand, respect, and
participate in the sport.>
