Yep--good old Western hospitality and all that.... I think it really got
started because so many out here did NOT have crews, and it is easier to take
a few bales to the vet check than to take 100 crew bags each large enough to
contain a flake of hay. As to water--natural water is non-existent at many
of our rides, so we have to haul water to EVERY water stop along the trail as
well as to the vet checks. There are a few with fancy rigs set up for
multi-days, etc., but they are in the minority--and it is easier for us to
simply haul the water in bulk to the checks than to devise a system for
individuals to carry it out in jugs, etc. It goes farther that way, too--a
big factor when you are having to haul several thousand gallons...
