1. Faster acting sugars than are commonly found in glycogen loaders would 
make for more dramatic spikes in blood glucose, and thus timing would be far 
more critical. 

2. You're giving so little sugar, with eaither molasses or a glycogen loader, 
that it must be supplemented throughout the ride.

3. Bo0th Kat and Roger have reported that the horse slows dramatically when 
supplementation is not kept up during the ride, or when the timing is 
stretched for one reason or another.

So, you get noticably improved performance with carbohydrate supplementation, 
but, if you don't follow the rules, you lose that advantage, and lose 
ground--despite the ton of VFAs floating around the gut just waiting for the 
call to action.
